Curaçao
At roughly 150,000 inhabitants, Curaçao are on course to become the least-populous nation ever to reach the World Cup, and on this island the debut itself is the story, not whatever follows it. The squad is drawn almost entirely from Dutch-Antillean dual nationals, a Caribbean side that has punched far above its size, and the man who finally got them there is Dick Advocaat. The 77-year-old, with Rangers, South Korea and Russia behind him, took the job in 2024 and steered the first qualification in the team's history. Experience runs through the side too: Cuco Martina marshals the back line, while Tahith Chong and the midfield grit of Juninho Bacuna give it a Championship-hardened spine. In Group E, against Germany, Côte d'Ivoire and Ecuador, a single point would already belong to the record books.
