Algeria
Vladimir Petković took the Algeria job in 2024 ahead of the country's preferred local candidates, and the Bosnian-Swiss has built his side around one familiar figure: Riyad Mahrez, now at Al-Ahli but still the playmaking axis the whole attack turns on. Around him sits a settled spine, Ismaël Bennacer's craft in midfield, Ramy Bensebaini and Aïssa Mandi steady at the back. These are African champions, crowned at the 2019 Cup of Nations, yet a continental power that has never matched its talent on the global stage. This is a first finals in twelve years, the last coming in 2014 when Algeria reached the round of 16. In Group J with Argentina, Austria and Jordan, the realistic target is second place. Get past Austria and the knockout door opens.
